Reassessment request
Do you believe your language proficiency is higher than your test result reflects? Please review the following details that may be relevant to your result.
We understand that the outcome might differ from your expectations, and we appreciate your commitment to seeking clarification and potential reassessment.
First of all, it’s important to recognize that the test reflects performance in a specific context. Your test result may be better or worse than your general English proficiency.
Secondly, the assessment focuses not only on your English language skills but also on your ability to apply standard phraseology and effectively manage radiotelephony communication.
Even for native English speakers, achieving Level 6 can be challenging without the proper experience and familiarity with standard R/T phraseology. As an example, a Level 6 candidate is expected to understand and manage almost any situation in radiotelephony communication, as outlined in ICAO DOC 9835 (excerpt from ‘Comprehension’):
“Level 6 users achieve a high degree of detailed accuracy and flexibility in their understanding of aeronautical radiotelephony communications regardless of the situation or dialect used. They further have the ability to discern a meaning which is not made obvious or explicit (“read between the lines”), using tones of voice, choice of register, etc., as clues to unexpressed meanings.”
This highlights that the overall grade is based not only on language proficiency but also on specific aviation communication skills, which are essential for maintaining safety and efficiency in an operational environment.
We encourage you to focus on both general English skills and the specialized areas of phraseology and radiotelephony procedures.
Please note that, according to ICAO regulations, the final rating is not the average or aggregate of the ratings in each of the six ICAO language proficiency skills; rather, it is the lowest of these six ratings.
