English Test

Vehicle Driver ICAO English Test assesses the English language proficiency of individuals who operate vehicles in critical areas of an airport.

All airport vehicle drivers must demonstrate operational level proficiency in English, including the use of phraseologies and plain language, with certification required by January 7, 2026 (EASA regulation ADR.OPS.B.029).

Purpose

Vehicle Driver ICAO English Test evaluates drivers’ ability to use standard phraseologies and plain language in both routine and emergency situations. This is crucial for maintaining safety in the busy and complex environment of an airport.

Key components

The test focuses on voice-only and face-to-face communication skills. Vehicle Driver ICAO English Test assesses the ability to communicate clearly on work-related topics and handle unexpected events. Drivers must demonstrate their ability to maintain situational awareness and use appropriate strategies to resolve misunderstandings.

Certification

Successful candidates receive a certificate that indicates their proficiency level, which must be renewed every four to six years depending on the proficiency level achieved. This certification is mandatory for drivers operating on runways and taxiways.

Depending on your performance during the test, you will be assessed at one of the following levels: Level 1 – Pre-Elementary, Level 2 – Elementary, Level 3 – Pre-Operational, Level 4 – Operational, Level 5 – Extended, or Level 6 – Expert.

Training and Re-assessment

Airport operators are responsible for providing language training to help drivers maintain their proficiency. Regular re-assessment ensures that drivers continue to meet the required standards. Unless a person has demonstrated language proficiency at an expert level, their language proficiency must be re-assessed.

If you require an English Language Proficiency test, and your license is issued by one of the states below you are able to take your English Language Proficiency with us. The countries below accept our language certificate through EASA mutual recognition according to REGULATION (EU) 2018/1139 Article 67.
